"The Robby" Nobokama (Limited Edition, Made to Order)
$245.00

Named for the biggest proponent and product tester of our nobokama development and subsequent iterations!

“Everything about this is so well made. I love the details and the beauty of its simplicity… this project was based off a desire to create a rugged pair of training pants that are made to take a lifetime of use, and are heavily inspired by the classic fits worn by Kuroda Tetsuzan in his early training videos. This item has included structural upgrades reminiscent of workwear; once again built around an idea of ‘buy once, and never again.’” - Robby Hovie

Includes construction details like:

  • narrower silhouette, less volume, same agility .

  • conspicuous top-stitching

  • flat-felled seams

  • omits the koshita (back plate)

  • sturdy, 100% cotton bull-denim that will soften with wear and washing, like breaking in a new pair of Carhartt’s (limited run, out-of-stock fabric)

These are made to order and built for your measurements. Length and certain construction details are all adjustable. If you have specific needs around fit, mobility, or body accommodation, please ask.

Customization options (specify in the ‘add to cart’ notes section):

  • Desired length (bottom edge of waistband to hem)

  • Hips circumference (or waist, if worn higher)

  • Himo (straps) custom length (default is ~175” front, ~74” back w/ 2 to 4 lines chain stitching for flexible structure)

  • Front himo ends made from a lighter material for better tying and less bulky under-bum knot

  • Longer, shorter, or reinforced side vents

Optional Add-ons:

  • Hanger Straps - $10

  • Save $10 on an obi when you bundle it with a hakama, gi, or nobokama pre-order. Specify length+fabric on the Custom Obi page, and the discount will be automatically applied at checkout.

Premium Linen Hakama (Custom, Limited edition)

Though I approach all of my pieces with care, craftsmanship, and high attention to detail, if I have to pick a ‘Deluxe’ option, this hakama is the one, hands down.

Sadly, these fantastic quality linen fabrics are no longer available, so I’ve been saving them especially for a short run of light-weight, breathable, and Classy As Heck hakamas.

Hakama (Custom, Made to Order)
$250.00

The hakama was the most challenging piece we've tackled, but so rewarding; brilliantly simple with important nuances. Getting here took multiple prototyping rounds over ~1.5 years and a lot of feedback from dojo-mates about what was working or needed tweaking (for some people a quarter-inch difference in himo width really does makes a difference).

The result is a quality garment that feels balanced, has clean lines, and is comfortable through varied and repeated motion.

  • Made to your measurements - if you have specific needs around fit, mobility, or body accommodation, I’m happy to help

  • Options for fabric, thread color, and construction details

  • Himo length (unless otherwise specified): 175-180" front strap end to end; 74" back strap. 2-4 lines of stitching for flexible structure.

Meet Meg

Hi, I'm Meg! (they/them/she/her)

I'm a custom sewist, tinkerer, and sometimes-mischief-bringer based in Michigan. My work lives at the intersection of craftsmanship and play—whether I'm repairing a beloved garment, making a batch of something on my brain, or prototyping martial arts gear for the dojo.

I've been sewing professionally for over 6 years, and I love helping people feel excellent in and about their clothes. Sometimes that means a better fit, and sometimes it means something entirely new.

I intentionally source new natural fibers, though I also occasionally incorporate salvaged or deadstock materials. My workshop is a mix of tailoring tools, hoarded fabrics, costume-trunk treasures, and a rotating cast of sewing machines.

This is work that keeps me learning, keeps me connected to my community, and keeps me creating.

What People Are Saying

“This hakama you’ve made is fantastic. The ripstop fabric feels lifetime-proof. The straps are also very extra long, so there’s a lot of confidence in the tying process as well, which adds to the comfort factor for me.”

— Robby H.

“Meeeeeeeg my god this [nobokama prototype] fits perfectly. The color and the style are just amazing.”

— also Robby H.

“Oh my goooooodness [BLEEPED] gracious this [“Robby” Nobokama] is sick as [BLEEPED]… Words can’t express the level of sickness, seriously.”

— Robby H., #1 MtT Fan
